"Scott Vice was extremely professional in his dealings with us. His workers met all deadlines and left the yard in immaculate condition. I'm very pleased with the results and his follow-up care."
A busy working couple with children wanted a substantial deck for entertaining that could also be used as an outdoor family room. The steeply sloping back yard needed to be leveled to provide grassy areas for play and planted borders to create a sense of privacy.
The far left side of the deck features a sunken spa for step-down convenience. The spa is shielded from view by a custom lattice screen with a three-level arbor top, planted with showy but compact potato vines that bloom most of the year and are very hardy in Sonoma's two-season climate.
Scott Vice uses a variety of shapes and textures to please the eye, such as repeating the circular design of the central fountain with the circular brick raised herb garden in the side path. The edge of the raised bed provides informal seating, as does the nearby curved sit-down wall. The exposed aggregate path is accented with the same bricks that form the raised beds and the low, curving wall. This yard provides a relaxed and welcoming setting for family get-togethers and celebrations for all ages.
